To speed up
the web design process, you will need the following
things so I can begin work your custom website:
(Even if you don't use my services, you need to get
the following things sorted out before you hire
someone to design a website for your business)
- A company Logo
- If you don't have one, I can create a simple
logo for Free. We can always change it later if
your needs change.
- Categories of
your main pages - These is what will be on your
navigation bar
- Examples
might include -
- Home ( The
main opening page of your website)
- About Us
(about your company or perhaps company
history)
- Products (
Your main products or services page -- What
you sell or do)
- Contact Us
(your contact information so customers can
reach you)
- Links
(links to other websites you like or sites)
- You are not
limited by a specific number, but around 5-7
is a good number to keep in mind. It will
vary from business to business.
- Text - Much of
your website will be text. The text is what
people read and it is ultimately what sells your
product or service. You need to figure out what
you want to say to your customers at your website
(this is your text) and then I will group that
text within your main pages (your category pages
from above). The text should be in text documents
(like Word, notepad, or you can email me the text
also). If you have an existing website I can get
the text from there. If you have company
brochures in PDF format, I can get the information
from them as well.
- Put some
thought into what you want to say on your home
page. This is your most important page and should
let potential customers know exactly what you
offer and how you are different from the rest.
- Photos or
images of your products, business location,
services offered etc. Images are a good way to
show people what you do and the quality of your
work. (I am also an illustrator so I am very
familiar with both bitmap (Adobe Photoshop) and
vector (Adobe Illustrator) graphics. My strong
graphics background will mean you have a website
that is a cut above the rest)
- If you
want to accept online payments, you will need to
select a secure shopping cart system to your
website and a Merchant Services account.

How much
does a website cost?
That depends
largely on what you want to accomplish with your
website. I have several
Custom
Website Packages
that fit
the needs of many businesses. I can also design a
Custom website to fit your exact needs and give you a Free
estimate. Please

like to sell your products online, you will need a
secure Shopping Cart and a Merchant Services account
(credit card processing).

How do I
sell my products or services online?
If you are going
to sell products or services online, you will
need to be able to accept online payments through your website.
This requires 2 things. A Shopping Cart and a
Merchant Services Account to charge the
customer's card and deposit it into your bank
account.

Shopping
Cart - I use the
Americart
shopping cart system for my commercial
accounts. A shopping cart is what customers
use to buy your products and send their credit
card information securely. A secure shopping cart
system like Americart is crucial to sending
sensitive credit card information safely over
the web.
The shopping
cart is not included with regular website packages
(not every client needs to accept online
payments).

Americart is
a very secure shopping cart system with
great flexibility. I use Americart system
for my clients who sell things from coffee
to clothing, and reservations, to artwork.
Shipping can be automatically calculated for
Priority Mail, UPS or Fed Ex depending on
your needs.

If require a
shopping cart, it will be an additional $300
for 1 year.

Merchant Services Account - Many
existing businesses already have a merchant
services account that they use to charge the
customer's credit card. If you already have a
Merchant Services account, then you will just
need the shopping cart above.
This is how it
works - When you receive online orders, you
will be able to securely download the
customer's credit card info and then charge
them on your regular EDC machines.

If you don't
have a merchant services account, you can
get one through your local bank. (I get my
merchant services through Costco - They
offer Nova merchant services to their
Executive members)

some additional options for Merchant
Services that could be used but it varies by
the business and products sold. If you have

How do I
get my own DotCom name for my business? (www.yourbusiness.com)
All of my
website packages
include the Domain Name Registration (your business's
own DotCom name.) This is based on the
availability of the name. If the name you wanted
has already been taken, I will help you in finding a
suitable alternative name for your website.
Initially, I will register the name for you, but I
will transfer all ownership of the name to you within
5 days of registration. You will be the sole
owner of your business's Domain Name

you help?
Absolutely. Updating a
website is very important, both to Search Engines, and
to the customer who like to see fresh and new content.
This change could range from minor text changes to
re-designing an entire website. Please
contact me
and I will answer all of your questions.

I am
having trouble with my current website designer. Can you
help?
Absolutely. You might be
surprised at how many times a week I hear this
questions. I always remind my customers that
your web designer works for YOU. Not the other
way around. Deadlines are incredibly important
to your business. It is my job to get your
website changed and updated BEFORE your deadline.
As an illustrator, I am used to working under
deadlines from Art Directors and Editors that need to
have my work completed on time so that they can go to
print.
Now, this is
important. Every business needs to know the
following information about their websites.
- The Password and
User Name for your hosting company
- The Password and
User Name for FTP (it may be the same as your
hosting company)
- Your domain name
should be registered in YOUR name, not your website
designers.
If you don't have
all of the above information, you should email your
current website designer and say that you are updating
your company records and need the above information to
keep on file.
